A.P. Moller Maersk Group

A.P. Moller Maersk, known for the largest oversea shipping line in the world, has been around since 1904. The company's Maersk Sealand shipping operation is the world's leading container shipper, with 250 vessels in its fleet and a deadweight capacity of more than 12 million tons. Other than its shipping company, A.P. Moller Maersk is a diversified conglomerate operating in the oil and gas, shipbuilding, retail, IT, and other industries.

In 1904, Peter Maersk Moller and Arnold Peter Moller bought a used steamship and found Aktieselskabet Dampskibsselskabet Svendborg (The Steamship Company of Svendborg). In 1912, Moller’s establish a second shipping company, Dampskibsselskabet of 1912, Aktieselskab (Shipping Company of 1912) based in Copenhagen. In 1917, The Company establishes Odensk shipyards in order to build ships for its own and other fleets. Many more operations in the A.P. Moller Maersk group were created after these dates. But in 1882, A.P. Moller goes public by listing its two shipping companies, Aktieselskabet Dampskibsselskabet Svendborg and Dampskibsselskabet of 1912, Aktieselskab, on the Copenhagen stock exchange. This boosted the company’s publicity a lot.

A.P. Moller Maersk Group has developed into a global company, employing about 120,000 people in around 130 countries. Maersk business activities include: Container shipping and related activities, APM Terminals, Tankers, offshore and other shipping activities, Oil and Gas activities, Retail activities, and also, Maersk owns a 20% stake in one of the biggest banks in Scandinavia, Danske Bank.

A.P. Moller Maersk is a great company. Even though they have the largest shipping line in the world and deal with tons of customers, they treat they’re customers with great respect. I have sent letters to Maersk regarding my interest in ships and the maritime economy. They sent a letter back, also including some booklets about they’re ships. I am only one customer, and they spent their time to write back a full letter, and some extras.

Overall, A.P. Moller Maersk Group is an outstanding company, and I wish everyone there a bright future, and another wonderful year.
